Aw man, look what ye've all done now... (Check the WTF thread...) So, I know that Felipe has closed that thread, but what do we do now? Who do you guys want as admin/moderators?

In my opinion, I thought that Felipe was doing a great job (of all the mods/admins here) - the best balance point for moderating/banning and staying impartial (even though he knows good stuff and thus does not have to do this). Just look at other discussion boards - yeah, there is a lot more moderation, but discussions don't last, there is very little activity, and you can feel a strong collective admin bias.

Thus, I would vote for Felipe, but if he is stepping down... I don't know. So many people on this board have a very strong bias, so it won't be easy to find people...

I fear that EF is going to go downhill from this point... sad.gif

That was a bunch of bullshit right there.

To Chris M and Marin and anyone else who thinks the mods should "do their damn job", how about a little thanks for the time and effort the mods have spent making EF the place it is?

Having a place like EF is a privelage, not a right. A little respect and appreciation would be good.

This is not a democracy. We have a short list of people who had been chosen previously for a contingency, and they will be informed by pm shortly asking if they want the job.

In a shorter amount of time than I might ever have expected, the new admin staff is in place.

One or two may drop out as time goes on, but that is precisely why I made the case for as many as I did.

I'm sorry it can't be a democracy, but it is a privately owned and operated site. I hope the choices are amicable to everyone.

The team is very well balanced, but I fear that no one will ban Zac anymore, unless he does so himself. undecided.gif

ok, in the big picture i agree with cerebus.

i'm chasing threads, and will stop now.

before i do, here's the post i made on another thread. i'm off now (i think) and sorry for the repetition:

i think felipe has done a great job as moderator. he's informed, passionate, and impartial.

plus he's put a great deal of time in--and has ESP about trolls. wink.gif

i think the amount of trust and respect that he's won among the denizens of this board is remarkable.

i think this is partly because, as passionate and involved as he is in his art, he has no ax to grind, and
treats people, experienced or newb, with respect. as long as they aren't here to troll.

best to all...

edit: correction of spelling.

I'm fucking pissed. and I actually have time to be on the forum this week. I think I might need to do some user cleanup work.

People actually complained about Felipe's moderation? I thought he was doing just fine, look at the way he dealt with Joe Ariola: showing the patience and restraint needed to not stifle interesting conversation, even when he himself was targeted, but stepping in firmly when Joe went out of line. I always liked the open atmosphere of this place, moderation is low-key enough to avoid the sort of passive-agressive "polite" conversation you see in places like aikiweb, or the self-important sérieux of Sigman's ego-boards, but has enough presence to avoid the pointless verbal violence of rec.martial-arts. The ego-clashes on this board actually contain interesting information, though after a while they get quite repetitve. So please, don't change EF. And Felipe, please, ignore the wankers and come back :-)
I.

Hey man, it wasn't my fault. I think the mods have been doing a fine job.

(I know, I know, I'm kidding here, but I do think they've been doing just fine)

Felipe was a big part of the soul of EF (and now I guess he's more like a spirit? smiley.gif), and while I think it's very, very sad that he's going, and that he was doing a great job, and that EF will never be the same anymore, for better or for worse (time will tell), I agree with cerebus that he certainly deserves at least a break. It has been a largely thankless and "payless" job and things like that take their toll.

I hope he will consider coming back at some point in the future though... General levels of mental health of some of the new admins is somewhat of a concern smiley.gif (although there's hope that because the groups is so diverse it won't become an issue.)

But change is always good, even when it's sad.

May St. Sooty continue to bless this forum.

A Guinness will go up in this neck of the woods later tonight, for Felipe's general well-being and as a big 'thank you' for all the pain and patience he had put in over the many years. He's definitely one of the coolest people I've ever known (even though we've never met.)

I used to mod at kungfumagazine.com for years.
I still do it at Cyberkwoon, but to a much lesser degree as there is a strong moderation effort there and super strong administration and the whole group moves as one for the most part, so modding there is easy as pie!

having said that, I quite at KFM because there was too many people who just wouldn't stop with their advertising or bickering and would reopen accounts and so on.

here, I owuldn't mod this place for all the donuts in china.

first, there is a lot of joking and there are several poser pompous asshat elitist fucks who posture and pose and support each other, say stupid things, never fight and are general fucking pussy farts all round in a forum. But, that's here nor there, so whatever.

I thought Felipe did a great job, and those of you who ragged on him fit the description of fuckwads i have described above. I hope you die from tick bites to your balls you fuckers.

Well, Felipe, you may now submit your opinions freely I guess, that's what I did at KFM. Just totally unleashed on the jerks who made my life suck going in there and cleaning up their shit all the time.

Anyway, good choice on making zac a mod. wtf were you thinking? I mean zac is funny, but by no means is he mod material. Oy Vey! lol

The hell? But hey, it's spring - Felipe could take 2 months off, practice hard, and come back to kick all your asses, internet-style. He was doing just by me fine.
Cheers,
pawel

The outcome of that WTF thread is precisely why I left it alone.

Felipe has always done more than his best effort to keep EF going, so it's sad to see him go...

Tomita
