It is a very sad day when I have to resort to do this, but without me coming forward, young men are going to be caught up in a web of deceit and waste time and money like me and a lot of others did.

Dai it's unfortunate such measures are neccessary. I was aware that Dr. Stephen Yan had been a problem in the past but did not realize it had been such a huge issue. Hopefully authentic Dai style will be able to flourish in NZ and worldwide despite such problems. Please let us know if Emptyflower can aid you or GM Yan Long Chang in any way.

Wow. Sorry to hear that you had to deal with all this drama and deceit. Sounds like you have a great teacher and have don't the right thing by distancing yourself from Dr Y.

That is heavy man. I am glad you found a quality master to replace that fraud. The world deserves to know what that guy is doing.

As an aside, what is "tian di yin yuan bu dao gong?" I've not heard of that one (but I only know a little about Dai style as you know, anyway cheesy.gif )...

Hmm - maybe should be "tian di yongyuan bu dao gong" (天地永遠不到功) then? (Just guessing here...)

Is it a health-maintenance qigong? The name sounds like a levitation method or something cheesy.gif

Hi Jon, sorry to hear about that. I've some friends who have gone through the same, I guess this sort of thing happens too often. The worst of it, even worse than the loss of time and energy, is when it makes you loose your motivation, the spark that kindles your desire to train no matter what. This is what happened to these friends of mine, but still I don't understand it. I mean, I've been dissapointed and felt that I've been wasting my time, several times in my life, but it was always because of people. MA in themselves never failed me, they were always there and I clung to them.

Firstly I would like to thank you for posting this and I hope it will serve as a warning to others who may be in a similar relationship with an abusive teacher but may not realise it. It is a shame that there people who use their status as martial arts teacher to deceive others while not teaching them what they claim to do; I am certain that there are people like this in every style and it just makes it all the more important that we should all be more careful and prudent when choosing a teacher in anything. This is especially the case in this modern age where practically everything has been influenced by contemporary marketing and advertising.

While it is a well known fact that there are vastly more fake masters than those who can really teach you what claim to be able to, what makes your account all the more disturbing is the idea that alot of people who have dabbled in various styles that may have some common themes can actually end up believing that they are qualified to teach others any of those styles as 'their principles are the same'. This is, as you pointed out in your blog, completely disrespectful of the original art(s) which the person has practiced/experienced and has the added effect of misinforming the unfortunate people who study with them what those styles are and what they consist of.

For me this deliberate spreading of misinformation is a particularly heinous practice; it destroys people's conceptions of what as art is and how it should be practiced, thus contributing to the art itself being wiped out. If someone has created a hybrid style or a personal style then it would perhaps serve us all if they were honest enough to label it as such; if they had real ability then it shouldn't hurt their ability to generate students.

I would urge anyone who wants to take up a new art not only to choose a teacher carefully, but also to remember to keep separated the various styles they have trained and not forget to be honest to themselves and inform the people they teach of their respective distinctions even though their 'principles' may seem the same.

From personal experience I can tell you it is very difficult to judge a teacher without having a reference. It is only when you meet a better teacher that you can compare (and the circle goes on and on).

You all judge rather quick, no need to hear the other side?
Just saying!

It is a pretty serious thing when a teacher disowns a disciple. Based on what I read, if only 10% is true I don't care about the other side.

I can definitely see where you are coming from not knowing both sides and this is only normal.

I tell you what there was a HUGE amount of information regarding bullshit I did not put up, due to me not wanting to waste too much time on this issue. I said what had to be said regarding Dai Xin Yi Quan, so I leave at that.

I need to concentrate on my own training, business and family, not be on the net reliving past bad experiences. If you are that interested in this subject PM me and I can tell you more.

For those that are interested in the other side of the story (and there is ALWAYS one) please see the following link:

http://www.tai-chi.c...rtunately).html

I think its a pity we have to chase Jon all around the internet after this rather concerted effort to discredit someone. For me the big hole in all these stories are that somehow Dr Yan's style is supposedly rubbish, and he was not good enough to teach students - and broke the rules by taking Tudi in Dai Xin Yi - and yet Master Yan himself was at Jon Dyer's very own ceremony to become Dr Yans Tudi. Pictures of that are on the link. What an amazing contradiction!

While there may have been a multitude of personal issues since (please see link on site regarding Master Yan), I dont think that is ever an excuse for what has been going on since.

I was glad to see this drama not get a toehold here on EF. I am a little worried to see a new post in this drama. No offense to you Nick - but I don't really care. I read your posts and saw the drama develop elsewhere. Dyer didn't find an audience to whinge to here - and I hope you don't either. Please continue to post your insights here on EF. We can always use people that train and talk inteligently. About this though - I (myself) don't care. .conal.
Do I contradict myself?
Very well then I contradict myself,
(I am large, I contain multitudes.)

Recently several of my students Aaron , David ,Almon ,Guy ...gathering togather , (I am training them for some free sparing tournament) talked about Dai Zhi Qiang (jon dyer)'s attack on his blog, they say , it looks like "a small man like jon dyer trying to be important by making stupid lies..."

Let's close this thread and keep it closed. The endless volley of accusations bouncing back and forth is not conducive to intelligent or productive discussion.

This decision by Interloper has the FULL SUPPORT of both Roots.

We don't need this on our board. If you want to pursue this further you can do it on RSF (if they will tolerate it) or anywhere but here.
